SUPERHEROES…
We watch movies…
We see Batman, Superman, Spiderman and even The Hulk (and many other superheroes)…
And we are like:
“I wish I could be like them”, and we are all sad because we can’t…
Why is this?
Lets look at it… (This may not be 100% accurate… It is just a personal summary)
Superman – He can fly, basically invincible, and people love him… YET he is powerless in the presence of the kryptonite… He has TWO lives…
Spiderman – He swings on webs, shoots webs from his hands, loved by people, climbs walls and he is brilliant… YET when there is doubt, he is powerless…He has TWO lives…
Hulk – He is basically invincible, huge and unstoppable… YET he needs to be mad to be super, and is hated as The Hulk and the power is somewhat uncontrollable… He has TWO lives…
Most of the superheroes have this in common… They rarely have a single life, since no one is supposed to know they are superheroes.
Are we going after the super powers, or is there something inside that we are urging to be more than what we are right now… To be excepted by people, or even just acknowledged that we do exist… I know I have this desire, and many days I would go out of my way to try and get acknowledgement… Many times to no avail…
Are we doing something wrong?
HEROES IN OUR CITIES…
How about these guys? Are you not at some point in your lifetime in some situation where the following groups may be the only solution, as a single group, or sometimes even as part of the collective of all of the following groups?
The Fire Brigade

Think of the following… You have a fire, you need help… How are you going to call? The Fire Brigade, of course… And at that moment, that is all that matters… Yet, the fire Brigade can only do their best in the situation they are in… If they fail, we are angry, yet if they succeed we applaud them… They have to do their best, and if they fail, they deal with it and continue… Maybe even learn and adjust their strategy to become even better at it…
THEY ARE NOT PERFECT…
DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO WIN EVERY TIME…
AND APPLAUD THEM, EVEN IF THEY FAIL… They did try their best after all…
The Police

Now how about when you have a robber trying to get into your house? Who do you call then? The police, in some cases even your Security, or Town Watch, or any in this line depending on the country we live in… At the moment you are sort of dependent on them… I know in South Africa, we sometimes think they are lazy, yet when push comes to shove, they are indeed called for help as well… Now we hate the police when someone is killed, forgetting they can not stop all the bad guys from all their … We think they are just not doing enough… In success, we always applaud them…
THEY ARE NOT PERFECT…
DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO WIN EVERY TIME…
AND APPLAUD THEM, EVEN IF THEY FAIL… They did try their best after all…
The Paramedics

Now these guys are the ones that have it tough… Think about it… They get to a place… A person already bleeding and they jump into action… NOT STROLLING… They go and help… Get the patient ready for transport, and go to closest hospital, after doing the preliminary job of saving the patient from dying… Yet, sometimes they fail… In this case we know they do not always succeed, we pray for a miracle… But why not for the above two as well?
THEY ARE NOT PERFECT…
And we do not treat them as such, yet if they are late due to various factors we think they were lazy…
WE CAN NOT EXPECT THEM TO BEAT EVERTHING, including time and unforeseen traffic anomalies… They try their best…
The Doctors

Now in these guys we have a lot of faith… Really… These guys have a lot of science backing them, yet they say that they know that the chances of success is like 50%… And then we start praying that ours is in the 50% that succeed… Now if they fail, they do literally everything they can to save the life in front of them… Now sometimes the win, sometimes they lose… YET they do not give up until they have tried everything…
We now THEY ARE NOT PERFECT, AND THAT THEY MIGHT FAIL…
YET MANY TIMES WE THINK THEY WERE NEGLIGENT, and we hate them for this…
But what do they all have in common?
WE ALL WANTED TO BE THESE GUYS WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER… And now we think Batman is who we must be…
The next part may give you a shock… Seriously…
WE ARE ALSO HEROES…
How can you say this? Easy… I will show it, one by one… Slowly… Even though we tend to sometimes, many times, neglect them in our life, they are there…
Parents…
Video: Connie Lynne Youtube Channel
This man was hurt, and his FATHER came to help him…
Video: Linda Magas Youtube Channel
This kid loves the outdoor and the running and swimming, yet he will never be able to do it, alone that is… With the help of his father it was possible
We often miss why our parents are there… And sometimes they also miss it…
YET THEY ARE NOT PERFECT AND MAKE MISTAKES…
But because we live with them constantly, we get angry, because we see all of their mistakes daily…
Now I am going to have to share a little of my story… And this is in no judgement to my parents… I now know that they did the best they could, with what they had to their exposal…
I many times felt like my parents were not there for me, yet they provided for me… I had food everyday of my life… I still do… I started to work from young, I learned how to work, and not give up… I became more about pleasing people, not because of my parent, but because I never really heard that I was good enough…Again NO JUDGEMENT…
All I went through, was for a reason… Nothing I went through, had no purpose… Think about it…
I felt rejected my whole life, what did I do… I accepted those who needed someone…
I felt discouraged because I always heard how worthless I am… Words that destroyed me… These are the words that forced me to look for the awesome in others…
I became depressed a while ago… You might not believe it, I even thought of suicide several times… This made me much more about the jokes in life… Laughter is good for the soul…
Now hugs I truly love… Not because of this or that… To me it is the exact proof that someone really cares… And even though I do not frequently get them… I became somewhat the one who would randomly hug someone, even if they hate hugs… Just to show I do really care…
Now you may ask why I shared this… I learned from my parents’ successes and failures…
TO MY PARENTS:
I FORGAVE THEM FOR WHAT I EXPERIENCED AND I REALLY LOVE YOU… AND YOU ARE DEAR TO ME… I PRAY THAT GOD WOULD BLESS YOU… YOU TAUGHT ME A LOT AND MEANS A LOT TO ME… I AM SORRY FOR NOT ALWAYS SAYING THIS TO YOU AND THAT MANY TIMES I HURT YOU WITH WHO I WAS WHILE I WAS HURT… I TRULY LOVE YOU… AND WILL ALWAYS BE CARING AND PRAYING FOR YOU…
I know parents seem to mess up a lot, but God knows that they are doing the best they can…
For those who have been rejected in divorce… I am truly sorry… THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT… And even though you may feel hated… I love you… and God loves you
For those with foster parents… This might not feel ideal, God has placed you there… Remember always, your parents had a choice, and they chose you… God loves you…
Much love to all the parents out there…
YOU ARE THE HEROES OF TODAY…
Friends…

Now here I would like to talk about the special kind of heroes…
We tend to think a hero is in a movie… I can tell you I have a few of these… You see me write things of inspiration, mine is the people in my life… Without them I would have stopped with this blog on the 11th of February of the year 2014…
Since March I had a hero in my life, who looked past my imperfect and insecure, and till today calls the one who is there to make the difference… I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FOR BEING SO FULL OF NONSENSE… I WISH I WAS DIFFERENT, BUT I AM HARD HEADED AND STUBBORN… I REALLY CARE ABOUT YOU AND THANK YOU FOR BEING IN MY LIFE… I AM SORRY THAT I SOMETIMES JUST WANT TO SEE YOU FOR A TIME… AND THAT I BOTHER YOU WITH MY NONSENSE SO MUCH…
I met this one girl a year ago… To say the least I really miss her… She was one of the first to accept me messed up as I was… She would encourage me when I needed it… I haven’t spoken to her in a while and as I am writing this I am busy tearing up… She was the one who I could talk to for hours, and I really miss her a lot… I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FOR NOT BEING TALKATIVE IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS… I KNOW I DID TELL YOU, YET KNOW I WISH I COULD TALK TO YOU FOR A WHOLE WEEK NON-STOP… I AM VERY SORRY FOR BEING SO STUBBORN, AND THINKING SO LITTLE OF MYSELF… I AM SO SORRY FOR STILL TESTING YOUR FRIENDSHIP AFTER A YEAR… YOU ARE A HERO OF MINE… I REALLY CARE ABOUT YOU AND I THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH ME, THROUGH THE UPS AND DOWNS IN THE LAST YEAR… I AM SORRY THAT I AM NOT ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEEDED ME…
Now the next is this one group of friends… A prayer group… They are all heroes of mine… They are the ones who were there in the last couple of months, while I was going through some of my toughest challenges… The ones I called upon when I really needed to be convinced that I should push through even when I wanted to give up… I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ME, WHEN I SOME DAYS HAD NOTHING TO BE GRATEFUL FOR… AND FELT LIKE I SHOULD JUST GIVE UP… I LOVE YOU ALL DEARLY … THANK YOU FOR BECOMING A SECOND FAMILY, WHEN I NEEDED ONE… A SUPPORT SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY IN THIS TIME WHERE I FELT LIKE I FAIL ALL THE TIME… YOU ARE ALL HEROES TO ME… THANKS FOR ENCOURAGING ME TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR…
Then there is this friend in my home town (Lets say my life long friend)… She encouraged me the one day like crazy… I was so negative that I almost gave up… At the end, she made me realize that I am just to stupid to walk away from the challenging stuff… THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIEND AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT I NEEDED IN TIMES I REALLY NEEDED SOMEONE… ALSO THANK YOU FOR BEING ONE OF THOSE I COULD CALL WHEN I REALLY NEEDED TO TALK… YOU ARE A HERO TO ME… I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN
Then to my geeky amazing friend… THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ME, EVEN WHEN I WAS SO DOWN THAT IT WAS HARD TO FOCUS… SORRY FOR SOMETIMES BEING OVER THE TOP WEIRD… AND YEAH… THANK YOU FOR ENCOURAGING ME TO TALK TO GOD AGAIN… YOU ARE A HERO TO ME… YOU ARE AMAZING…

Now these are all ordinary people… And I believe I needed to do what I did to show that HEROES do exist… They are everywhere… even in our lives… They can be in your church, school or even in prison… But they are there…
Conclusion…
The next video is a clip of a funeral…
Video: ThinkFamily Youtube Channel
Now those in your family, your friends, your school and even your church are there for a reason… They are not perfect… They have flaws… Yet, we seem to hate them for the imperfections… And love them when they are there for us only… Let us look for the times when we need to look past their imperfections… And look are their hearts to find the real people in them… And still love them even though they irritate us…
AND WHAT ABOUT US?
Now for us… I will need to tell you another part of my story… to explain…
I have a fear of speaking in crowds, yet I was called to do this… The reason for the fear is a story for another day….
Now I also got to a point where I was hurt by church, mission organizations, friends, family and myself… To such extent that I am not even sure that I would have ever been able to help someone again… Now me and one of my friends walked in the one area of our town (known as Bult here in Potchefstroom, North-West, South-Africa)
Here we met a kid named Jack… This kid is legend… When we met him first, we invited him to a church service… Where he came… This kid is one of the few we hang out with… Not to give money, but rather to talk to, pray for and to just show them they are also important… Now it is about 7 or 8 months since we met him… The other day he told a friend of mine (with me sitting there) that I am an inspiration, and that he looks up to me…
Now, this is driving me to tears right now… My intentions were not to be a role model or even to get him to Christ… I just walk and talk with him… Now to go from there… Later that night I walked with him again… And we went to get coffee at this one tent… A church was serving the community with coffee and company… Now as I walked with him, I saw how people thought of them… They are seen as only trouble, yet I saw them from a side, no other had seen before…
I asked Jack the following: “When you talk to God, what do you say?”
His response: “I ask Him to help me and supply my needs, and keep me safe”
I asked him again: “Do you thank God?”
He responded: “Yes, thank you very, very, very, very much”
Now I asked him: “Do you have anything you can thank God for?”
He told me: “Yeah, I got food and coffee and a little money today”
Then I asked him: “And what if you didn’t get anything, would you still have anything to be thankful for?”
He told me: “No, because I didn’t get anything”
This is when I reminded him about the clothes he has, that he is healthy, and that God still loves him…
And he smiled…
My final response to him was: “We must learn to say thank you for what we have, God knows our needs and He will supply…
Why did I tell you this?
Is it to show you that I am great? perfect? awesome? amazing?
HELL NO… I told you this for one simple reason…
Me, one of the most unlikely people in the world to be a hero, IS SEEN AS A HERO BY JACK… Not because I am great, but because I went out of my way to love him… Care about him… Pray for him and even talk to him… In his eyes I am a hero….
Now you are called to make a difference… This is entitled to you as a coheir to Christ, to be a HERO…
God showed us how… He sacrificed His Son for us, to save us… Heroes save people….
We can save ourselves, yet we need help…
Heroes know who they are, and amounting to nothing in the eyes of others doesn’t mean you have to amount to nothing… The next video is about such a case…

Here is a motivational video for you… Dream.

Like you saw in today’s post… I have not used any scripture… I didn’t feel it necessary for this… I have however told you about many heroes in my life…
