In our day and age we have computers, smart phones, tablets and televisions… and this is only to name a few…
But I am going to say the title is so intriguing… But why am I speaking on this… Am I actually referring to a god or would “The TV Monster” be better suited for this blog…
However, there is no difference in what I am going to say…
Firstly, I am not saying to watch TV is wrong, and this is not my way to tell the world that they are living in sin or any of that… This is my personal experience and that which I have seen…
Now this is where I start… I was at one stage an addict when it comes to TV… It cost me a lot of my life and I know what the power of it is… Yet some are called to change it, and others are called to script for it, I might one day also be doing it… Uut until then I will personally try and avoid most TV… Especially if I do not have control over what is being watched…
Here is what I have seen happen… And it happened to me…
People walk in the house and fall in front of the TV and 6 hours later go to bed…
Another… You start by watching one thing and as you are getting ready to switch off, another interesting episode or movie attracts us and we watch that… and so goes the cycle…
Both of these happened to me… NOT just once, but multiple times… All electronic devices can be used… And many have caught me off-guard…
Yet I am not getting to the point… So here I go…
1) What did I have to sacrifice to watch TV?
2) What was my motivation?
3) Am I entitled to watch TV if either of these are not going to glorify God?
4) What are the consequences?
Let see…

What did I have to sacrifice to watch TV?
This question is very important… Did I waste my time or not…
When I was watching TV, God was neglected… I sacrificed time with my Father, Brother and Best Friend (If you do not understand please see Who am I? Part 7 – Introductions), to watch a box of nothingness …
What was my motivation?
As for my motivation, this is also very questionable… Even this last week I realized, when I am negative… Or going to borderline depressed… I just watch movies, play games and mope… On which non brought me closer to a victory for the reason I got like that… My motives were purely selfish and I become an ASS when this is my motivation…
Am I entitled to watch TV if either of these are not going to glorify God?
In my case, I would preferably not watch TV… Due to it becoming my God…. Why is this wrong anyway… Here is why…

“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:3-6 ESV)
To make it clear, when I serve anything other than God, I sin…
Now I have to add the following… TV has a lot of things that actually do harm… I have a young niece who refuses to watch some cartoons, which I found harmless, because it scares her and freaks her out… If a 3-5 year old can sense something off, shouldn’t we wonder ourselves?
What are the consequences?
God said that the consequences of sin is death (Romans 6:23)… Meaning I am messing around… But this is not even the worst part of this… You know… I missed opportunities to reach people… To tell someone the God loves them… To learn from God, who I am and what I am capable of… This is worse to me than the first… I can live a life true to Christ, yet miss the mark… I can say I am a Christian on my Facebook, yet if my Life does not reflect it, IT IS USELESS…
The Other side of this coin…

I did mention that I cannot say that any man is a sinner for watching TV… I can though mention why…. I have had major revelation when it comes to movies and such… Harry Potter, Facing the Giants, Never Back Down, We Were Soldiers, etc… These God used to teach me some things… And I can not say that TV is bad if I had some good from it… For me, TV should be there only if I know that I will do what I set out to, and have the blessing of my Father…
Now why did I exactly write this?
I have found that due to a remote in my hand… While watching TV, I started to struggle hearing when God speaks to me… I expected God to shout at me, Yet God speaks in a whisper (1 Kings 19:11-13). So I needed volume, Yet I just didn’t adjust my ears so I can hear what God is saying…
God is a Gentle God… He will not force Himself upon us, and He will not shout to make known if He want us to do something … For If we are not obedient, God can use even the rocks to praise His Name. (Luke 19:40). God wants to use us, and He hopes that we will be ready and willing to listen to Him.
God bless… You are amazing…
P.S. I am not saying any of this to make you feel judged or to make you think you are not worthy… God made you… He made you worthy and He loves you… Prayerfully discern if this at all applies to you… If God reveals it to be true… Then act in the way He tells you to, Otherwise you do not even have to think that you are sinning because of this… God Loves you
